He is an international authority in Neuroimmunology and neuromuscular diseases. He completed his training at the University of Oviedo and the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, and conducted research at Yale University (USA). His contributions have been fundamental in the identification of biomarkers for autoimmune neuropathies, contributing to the description of autoimmune nodopathies, a milestone in this field. He is currently the principal investigator of the Autoimmune Neurology research line at ERN-NMD in Sant Pau and coordinates the Multiple Sclerosis Unit, combining clinical care with translational research. His distinguished career has been recognized with important national and international awards in Neurology and clinical research.
