It is a discipline of medicine specialized in the study, diagnosis, and treatment of pain in all its forms and whose objective is to reduce the physical and mental suffering of the patient and their environment.
Patients are cared for by an anesthesiologist specializing in pain medicine, who evaluates them through outpatient consultation, and defines, depending on the type of pain they present, what would be the most convenient management alternatives to stabilize and improve their pain picture, within The therapeutic options are pharmacological and non-pharmacological management and analgesic intervention in order to improve the quality of life of the patient and their functionality.

¿Cuándo consultar?

Patients previously managed by their treating physicians, in whom the pain does not improve with conventional treatments, becoming chronic and disabling pain, are referred for consultation with pain medicine.
Patients who consider that their pain condition is not being adequately controlled, may request assessment with pain medicine.
Patients in whom pain has ceased to be an isolated symptom to become a chronic disease, which affects their physical, emotional and social well-being.

What types of pain are treated in pain medicine?

Craniofacial pain: Headache, migraine, trigeminal neuralgia and post-herpetic neuralgia.
Pain in the spine: Cervical (pain in the neck), Dorsal, Lumbar and Sacral.
Osteomuscular pain: Myofascial pain, joint pain, osteoarthritis, arthritis, both in large joints such as shoulders, elbows, hips, knees and ankles, as well as in small joints in the hands and feet.
Chest pain (myofascial pain), abdominal pain (chronic pancreatitis) and chronic pelvic pain (chronic pancreatitis).
Neuropathic Pain: Pain due to nerve lesions, peripheral or central neuropathies. (example: diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia)
