Juan Diego Contreras Mercado is a 14-year-old boy from Sincelejo, Colombia. He enjoys playing soccer and studying. He is an oncology patient at Hospital Serena del Mar. His mother recalls that he always had a big appetite, but she noticed that he was eating less and hesitating before meals. This seemed strange to her, and she started to worry. Additionally, when he slept, he breathed through his mouth instead of his nose and made a noise similar to snoring.
One day, they went to the doctor for a routine check-up. He underwent some tests, and they found something in his nose. Later, they discovered that he had a mass extending into his throat. His mother could already see that he was physically unwell. He looked pale, tired, and experiencing chest pain.

When they arrived at the hospital, Dr. Eddie explained to them that Juan Diego had childhood cancer. This news was a huge shock to the family, and everyone felt afraid.
When he was told that he needed to undergo chemotherapy, Juan Diego was scared because he didn’t know what could happen. However, he never lost faith and hope. He told himself, "I will get through this, I will be victorious, and I will come out better than ever."
Fortunately, the treatment worked. His mother is grateful that the results were positive, and that Juan Diego is now cancer-free.
