Melissa Vélez Osorio arrived at the Hospital Serena del Mar with her baby, Mariana Sofía, worried because the little one was having difficulty breathing and her chest was sinking in when she tried. They were immediately admitted through the emergency room, where she was stabilized and put on a ventilator.

After being assessed, Mariana was referred to the Pediatric ICU, where she suffered a respiratory arrest and was intubated by Dr. Steven Osorio. Under the care of Dr. Beatriz Duque, the medical team diagnosed an acute respiratory infection that progressed to respiratory failure, requiring ventilatory support.
During her recovery, an 80% narrowing of the airway was identified — a complication that was promptly treated thanks to the coordinated work of the multidisciplinary team, avoiding tracheotomy and ensuring a full recovery.
Today, Mariana leads a healthy and active life. Her mother deeply appreciates the dedication of the ICU team, especially the nurses who were there for her during the most difficult moments:
“They were always attentive, and they comforted me when they saw me crying. Thanks to them, my daughter breathes normally today.”
